The manifesto

Tarn

Climbed from the bottom up.

A tarn is a mountain lake. It forms high up, in a hollow that a glacier carved and then abandoned, and it fills with snowmelt and rain, nothing silted, nothing churned by the rivers below. Because it is fed so cleanly, it is still. Because it is still, it is clear; you can see all the way to the bottom. And on a windless morning it holds the mountain above it, exact, inverted, whole, adding nothing, hiding nothing.

That is the entire idea.

A tarn does not command the mountain. It cannot move a single stone. It only shows what stands above it, precisely as it is, and that is enough.

We built an instrument that does the same for the way you hold your money. It shows you exactly where you stand. It adds no noise, hides no truth, and makes no move on your behalf. The mountain is yours. We only keep the water still.

IBase Camp

Why we are here

Every climb begins here, and every climber returns here. Base Camp is the lowest point on the mountain. It is also the one you cannot skip.

Tarn began with a single bad morning. A trade closed too early, not because the thesis had broken, but because watching the number move had become unbearable, and selling made the discomfort stop. An emotional decision wearing the costume of a rational one. The position ran on without me.

The loss that morning was not the profit left behind. It was the recognition that I owned a dozen tools that could show me a price, and not one that could show me myself. Every app could tell me what I held. None could tell me who I was becoming. None asked me to write down why I entered before letting me act on the urge to leave. None made me account for the day.

They were dashboards. What I needed was a practice.

So this was built.

IICamp

The honest exchange

Above Base Camp, you make Camp. You provision. You decide, deliberately, what to carry up and what to leave behind. No one summits without first making Camp.

Tarn asks two things of you, and is honest about both.

The first is attention. It opens each morning before it shows a single number, high country, a line worth carrying, the quiet pulse of what moved overnight, and it asks for your intention. It closes each evening by asking you to account for the day. Not to judge it. To witness it. This is the true cost of clarity, and it is paid in the few honest minutes that bookend a day.

The second is money, once. Tarn is bought, not rented. One price, paid one time, in a whole number. No discount for the patient, no sale punishing the early. What you own, you keep; your records export and travel with you. No subscription to forget, no tier to unlock, no quiet meter running in the background.

A serious tool names its price plainly and lets the value answer for it. Ours does.

IIITrail

What we keep

The Trail is the path behind you. Every step already taken, still visible, still yours. A mountain remembers where you have walked.

When a position closes, it does not vanish. It settles. It moves off the active face of the mountain onto the Trail, and it keeps its full record, what you thought, when you entered, what you felt, how it ended. Gains and losses both. The trade that worked and the trade that taught you. They are equally part of the path.

There is a difference, and Tarn holds it sacred, between exiting and erasing. A position sold to zero is history: kept, settled, instructive. A position deleted is a correction: a thing entered in error that never truly happened. The first leaves a footprint. The second was never a step. To confuse the two is to lie to yourself about the path you actually walked, and the entire purpose of the Trail is that it does not lie.

You do not become a better investor by forgetting. You become one by remembering honestly.

IVHorizon

What we promise

The Horizon is the edge of the visible and the direction of everything still to come. To watch the Horizon is to prepare. So here are the promises Tarn makes about everything ahead.

Your data lives on your machine. Not on our servers, we keep none. Not in a cloud, there is nothing to sync that you did not ask to sync. Your exchange keys are read-only, held in your Mac's keychain, where Tarn itself cannot reach them to do anything but look.

Tarn cannot place a trade. It was built that way on purpose. An instrument that only watches can never act against you in a moment of panic, neither yours, nor its own.

And there is no telemetry. We do not know what you hold, what you trade, when you open the app, or whether you open it at all. We made ourselves blind to you, so that you would never have to wonder.

These are not features. Features can be removed. This is the shape of the thing, and the shape does not change.

VVantage

What the others could not see

A Vantage is the place you climb to in order to see the whole of something at once, allocation, exposure, the true shape of what you hold, seen from above. From here it becomes clear what every other tool got wrong.

They built dashboards, every number on one screen, blinking, competing, demanding. A dashboard is magnificent in a gallery of screenshots and useless in a single real morning, because the eye cannot rest and the mind cannot think when everything shouts at once. They mistook density for depth.

They built engagement, streaks to break, badges to chase, confetti for showing up, stories and tokens and feeds. They optimized for the hours you spend inside the app, when the whole measure of a good instrument is how few of them it needs to tell you the truth.

They built for everyone, and so they built for no one.

Tarn is one question per elevation, answered cleanly, then out of your way. It does not want your time. It wants to give it back.

VIRidge

Who walks here

The Ridge is the narrow line near the top, where the mountain falls away on both sides. Not everyone walks a ridge. It is for those who have climbed far enough to reach it and are steady enough to stay.

Tarn is not for everyone, and pretending otherwise would be its first dishonest act.

It is for the investor who holds real positions across real exchanges and cold wallets, and is tired of stitching the picture together by hand. Who thinks in thesis, not tips. Who has felt the particular solitude of making a serious decision with serious money and no instrument worthy of the moment. Who would rather understand one portfolio completely than glance at ten.

It is not for the gambler who wants a faster casino. Not for the collector of beautiful, empty dashboards. Not for the beginner who needs a tutorial more than a tool. They will find Tarn quiet, demanding, and strangely unwilling to entertain them. They are right. It was not built for them.

If you have read this far and felt recognized, you already know which one you are.

A stark snow-laden summit ridge

The wind takes anything that is not essential.

VIISummit

What Tarn is

The Summit is the highest point and the most exposed. There is no decoration here; the wind takes anything that is not essential. What remains at the top is only what is true.

So, plainly, at the top:

Tarn is not a portfolio tracker. It is the practice of knowing exactly where you stand, every day, without noise.

It shows, and never controls. It holds your portfolio the way a still lake holds the peak above it, exact, complete, adding nothing, hiding nothing, moving not one stone on your behalf. The clarity is the gift. The decisions remain entirely yours.

That is the whole of it. A calm, honest surface, high up, keeping a true picture of where you stand, so that on the morning that matters, when the number moves and the old urge rises, you act from clarity instead of fear.

This is the instrument for the few who climb. If you have come this far, you are already one of us.

The mountain does not lie.

Neither does Tarn.
